Parenting truth: Feelings don’t scare kids. Being alone with feelings scares kids. Next time your child is upset, instead of saying “It’s going to be okay” or “It’s not a big deal” sit with them and try, “I’m right here with you. We’ll get through this together.” By showing our kids we aren’t afraid of their big feelings, we are teaching them not to be afraid too. Our presence is everything in these moments.
