Hello October. Hello Waratah season. Hello gentle explosions of ruby fingers, floral fireworks of joy. If you find one of these treasures, please leave for others to enjoy. From the NPWS: “While taking any flowers or plants from national parks is against the law, the waratah is also protected under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016, which makes it illegal to pick them anywhere in the State.” It’s a shame when the blue paint has to be applied to stop folk stealing them. The waratah display at the The Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Mount Tomah at the moment is nothing short of spectacular. Looking at some of the feature plants with literally hundreds of flower blooms it’s not only a pleasure in the moment but it’s a massive credit to all the staff who maintain the gardens.
