Each year the Cherokee Nation honors more than 130 rural Oklahoma fire departments during our annual Volunteer Firefighter Awards Banquet. This year, due to concerns caused by COVID-19, we’ve chosen to forego an in-person gathering in order to keep our first responders safe. In 2019, the Cherokee Nation invested $1.4 million into transit systems in Northeast Oklahoma, helping services provide 115,000 passenger rides to workplaces, grocery stores and health centers.
