Powerful images of the D-Day landings have resurfaced 80 years after they were taken by American cameramen on Omaha Beach and Utah Beach. French documentarian Dominique Forget rediscovered the forgotten footage and, alongside the cameramen’s ancestors, now wants to preserve and honour their memory. On June 6, 1944—known as D-Day— Canadian Armed Forces and Allied forces attacked German strong points on the beaches of Normandy, France. Canadians were among the first of the forces to land and fight inland from their landing area called Juno Beach, where they faced fortifications, such as mines, razor wire, artillery and pillboxes. Despite gruelling combat conditions and losses, Canadian and Allied forces succeeded to push past Normandy into northern France on towards Belgium and Holland. See
